Abstract:

Manuscript correspondence on letterhead stationery and envelope of May & Co. Hardware and Metals addressed to Waterman at the Grand Hotel in San Francisco. Stoddard writes that he left 100 shares "ophir" [i.e. Ophir Silver Mining Co.?] in a C.H. Parker's care with instructions to sell some of it when the price reached 75 dollars. The price having been reached and hearing stories that the stock certificates had been stolen from a safe, Stoddard has been unable to make contact with Parker and asks Waterman for help in determining "how Parker stands now, what his prospects are" for getting his money.
